So I was in Ulta the other day, which is a shocker, and I came across something in the Urban Decay section that made me side eye quite a bit. Now, as much as I dislike Ulta, I actually love the layout of their Urban Decay lippies buuut
What.
The.
Fudgeballs.
I am more then happy that they are providing swatches of the lip color right there, but everyone pictured is either fair/light skinned/white and there are no darker skinned models what so ever.
I would have less of a problem with this if not for the fact that every single shade in be Urban Decay lipstick line you can google and find on someone of lighter skin easily, see, watch.
Like here
And here
Oh and here too.
But when I try to search for lipsticks on dark skin this is what comes up.
Yeah those are pretty dark
More progress this time around (and hey there's me!)
Progress kinda thrown out the window here.
But you can see what I'm getting at. If you're going to make a damn display displaying the lipsticks on different skin tones you could at the VERY least try to do the three basic colors: light, medium, dark. Instead just medium and light were done and it makes no sense. Do I not exist Urban Decay? Seriously.
In all honesty though, it just reminds me of why I started this blog: To show swatches and things on a darker skinned woman, to be a reference. Because sometimes trying to find that new thing or that lipstick shade you want to try on a model on the internet of you're darker skinned is like a needle in a haystack, but I figure I can make the search a tad bit easier.
So...yeah. Rant over. I mean, I could go on a full rant about the lack of representation of WOC in the beauty world but I'll keep that to tumblr...Untill someone ticks me off about it badly enough anyway...
Later!
